A Luxury Stay at The Cadogan: Belmond’s Five-Star Hotel in Chelsea, London

Finding the perfect luxury hotel in London can be a challenge, especially when you’ve had the pleasure of staying at the city’s most iconic addresses—Claridge’s, The Connaught, The May Fair. But as our London life began gravitating more towards Chelsea, it made sense to find a base that reflected our new focus. The Cadogan Hotel, a Belmond property, quickly became that place.

Now, after three stays, it’s time to share our experience at one of Chelsea’s finest five-star boutique hotels.

A Warm Welcome to Sloane Street

The Belmond Cadogan Hotel London sits on the curve of Sloane Street, a short walk from Sloane Square and Knightsbridge, ideally positioned in one of London’s most desirable neighbourhoods. On arrival, you’re greeted not by a grand lobby, but by something far more intimate and refined. The reception feels like a bright, elegant sitting room. In winter, a crackling fire adds warmth; in summer, open doors invite the Chelsea sunlight inside.

Fresh flowers, soft furnishings, and a discreet check-in process set the tone. A sweet trolley is always within reach. The doorman remembers your name. Before you reach the desk, they already know who you are.

Rooms at the Cadogan: Chelsea Elegance with Belmond Charm

We’ve stayed in both Junior Suites and Superior Rooms. Each one is a quiet retreat from London’s bustle. A small vestibule greets you before the main bedroom, offering both privacy and calm.

Muted tones of white, grey, and green dominate the décor, accented by Bamford amenities in the bathroom and thoughtful touches throughout. The Junior Suite offers more space, with a dressing area and walk-in wardrobe. Superior Rooms are snug yet well-planned, easily accommodating two large suitcases. The high windows offer privacy but a view of the sky and Pavillion Road, below.

Every bed is outfitted with a "plumptious" duvet and your choice from the sleep concierge pillow menu. The rooms are quiet, and thanks to the hotel’s position, you can open a window and breathe in Chelsea air without the roar of London nightlife.

Modern touches are subtle: a smart TV with streaming access, reliable Wi-Fi, adjustable lighting settings. A welcome balance between old-school elegance and modern luxury.

Dining at The Cadogan: Breakfast, Rosé, and LaLee

There are three main dining options at The Cadogan Hotel: the bar, LaLee restaurant, and afternoon tea.

The bar is a hidden gem—relaxed, low-lit, and reserved for guests and their guests. It’s not overrun by the public, unlike some other luxury hotel bars in London. With live music at weekends, a well-chosen cocktail list, and booth seating, it’s the ideal spot for a pre-dinner drink.

In summer, the pop-up Chateau d’Esclans terrace brings a splash of Riviera chic to Chelsea, with rosé and a light seasonal menu.

LaLee is named for Lillie Langtry, the celebrated actress and socialite who once lived here. The restaurant is elegant and calm, open for breakfast and dinner. Mornings offer smashed avocado on toast, full English breakfasts, and fresh fruit in a beautifully peaceful setting. Dinner brings John Dory, Saddle of Lamb, and gnocchi, served with poise and precision.

There’s also a bright salon for afternoon tea—we haven’t tried it yet, but the setting looks perfect for a slow afternoon indulgence. Afternoon tea at The Cadogan is said to be one of the most refined in Chelsea.

Spa Treatments & Concierge Service

While the hotel doesn’t offer a full spa, gym, or business centre, there is a private treatment room downstairs offering facials by renowned super-facialist Teresa Tarmey.

The concierge team are quietly brilliant. They’re always present, always helpful, and effortlessly solve problems—from restaurant bookings to travel changes. During one stay, I needed to extend my booking due to illness. They sorted everything with grace.

Location: Between Knightsbridge, Sloane Square, and the King’s Road

The Cadogan’s position is a major asset. It’s five minutes to Sloane Square, ten to the King’s Road, and fifteen minutes to Harrods. In fact, this is a very convenient hotel near Harrods London—an easy walk around the back of Sloane Street gets you there quickly without the crowds. Victoria Station is also nearby, and Hyde Park is close for a Sunday stroll. The recently improved Pavilion Road area, just off Sloane Square is also worth a look.

Walking down Pavilion Road

The location is especially useful if you’re shopping or exploring London: two Underground stations, Sloane Square on the Circle Line, and Knightsbridge on the Picadilly Line connect you to the rest of the city.

This is one of the best luxury hotels in Chelsea London for a peaceful stay within reach of the action.

The Cadogan Hotel: A Refined Luxury Retreat in Chelsea

What makes the Cadogan London’s best boutique luxury hotel isn’t just the rooms or the location—it’s the overall feeling. This is a hotel that remembers you. That treats you like a regular even if you’re not.

Yes, it lacks a gym. But it makes up for it in serenity. Yes, it’s not a party scene. But it is a peaceful, luxurious retreat in the heart of Chelsea. Ideal for couples, solo travellers, or anyone seeking calm sophistication.

I would give The Cadogan Hotel five out of five stars without hesitation.

A Note on History and Belmond Heritage

The Cadogan name is historic, tied to the powerful Cadogan family and the Chelsea estate. The building has hosted literary and artistic guests for generations. Now, under the Belmond brand (also behind Le Manoir and the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express), it carries on a tradition of refined European luxury.
